In the first half of the 14th century Paris was a famous centre for devotional work in ivory and translucent enamel and there developed a particular Parisian style amongst the artists and workshops of the time. The graceful, gothic simplicity of the figures depicted on this plaque can be linked with the iconography and style of the Parisian ivories of the period.
